Calligraphic egg

Cleaning up yard debris this afternoon now htat there are actual areas without snow, I come across this lonely dove egg sitting all by itself in the groudcover. Don't know whether Mom lost it on a fly by or gave up trying to make a nest or what.  But I love the shadow of branches creating calligraphy on the surface.

Glow!

  I manipulated this photo of succulents and now it glows. This may be one to play with for a Spoonflower printed fabric. More to come!

Runaway bubbles

I came across this photo today that I took last year driving into Salt Lake City. We were going down a scenic canyon to get there and came around a corner where a man was making these gigantic bubbles. It was so cool to see them floating along down the middle of the road. And to see someone out just having some fun.

Water drops

Playing with transforming the photo of water drops caught in the window screen. You can get pretty far away from where you started if you play long enough!

Tulip time

The tulip that I photogrpahed a couple of weeks ago has been beautiful to the end. Even dried up and dead it has retained its interest for me.

Walking on the Mississippi River

 

We went to LeClaire IA this weekend in the hope of still seeing the bald eagles - it was not to be. But instead we did see black and white pelicans, geese, ducks, red winged blackbirds. These geese were out for a stroll on the very thin ice near the shore above one of the dams.

Ride um cowboy

Yesterday we were in LeClaire, IA on the Mississippi river to poke around a bit and to have dinner at a favorite restaurant - The Faithful Pilot. It did not disappoint! One of the places we came across was American Archeology - the antique store that American Pickers TV program is about. Lots of fun stuff to see in there including this tiny merry go round.

Welcome Spring

Today it actually feels like spring might come.

 With the time change, a bit of warm weather and sunshine I ahhave new patterns on the wall in the living room. It is so good to see something bright!

I saw this artwork by Kim Keever this morning and thought I would share the link. It's pretty amazing what can be done with  paint, water and a  camera. At the site you can also see the set up for taking the shots.

 

Tulip play

Given that I only got one tulip out of my forced tulip planting I am trying to get some mileage out of it. Here are some manipulations of one of the  images from yesterday. With more play this coudl become an interesting piece of cloth.

I have one tulip actually bloom out of the several that I tried to force. But one is better then none and it is a beauty. Small but mighty!

Art cloth work in progress

This is a detail from a work in progress. I manipulated assorted architecutral photos I have taken and combined them. Now overprinting other elements and adding subtle textures.  We will see where it goes!

Moo cards

 Just put out a new batch of Moo cards. I use then for all kinds of things including labels on scarves, etc. It's always fun to see the variety when I open a new batch.  If you ever want to make your own tiny business cards with up to 100 different images  go to moo.com.

Another possible water reflection piece

 Another possible new quilt - lots of energy in this one. Today I painted a lot of fabric to start accumulating "ingredients' for working on this.  It will be about 7 feet wide so I need lots of fabric to work with.

Water Reflections

 Gathering images from my photo collection to start a new series of water reflection quilts.  I have this one up on the wall trying to decide how to best capture the translucency and layers of color.  I have faith that the solution will come.

Gold on grey

I am working on a new piece of art cloth that has multiple layers of printing, with gold, puff additive and silver paint on digitally printed cloth. The original image was of tree rings.

Blue, blue iris

Hopes of spring - the sun is out, the sun is up (at 6:30 pm), beautiful blue iris in the green vase. 

Leaf textures

I want to start a new group of leaf studies so I was shooting some of the dried leaves that I have to be able to enlarge and look at the textures close up. This is a solarized version of the back of one of the leaves. Now to figure out how to recreate it. I might print all the textures out or maybe make a silkscreen. Something to ponder.

Snow on bamboo

I am caving in to working on snow images as there going to be snow on ground here forever! I rpinted this image on vellum paper and then rescanned it. I think it has added to it's dimensionality.

Blue texture

 Drying mop has wonderful blue texture - who knew a wet mop could be so interesting.

Wall texture

I have been shooting some of the beautiful textures and seerendipitous compositions that have evolved in the wonderful old building that my studio is in. The Starline Building is huge and I find wonderful little vignettes every time I take a walk around it.

Tiny tree

I came across this photo of a tiny tree in my stack of photos to decide what to do with. Seems appropriate for this cold but sunny day that supposedly is in the  meteorlogical spring that started on March 1.

Halos

I took this very odd shot of the fern candle holder on the wall - didn't realize how fuzzy it actually would be but I like what happened to it!  This week I am going to work on some of my other hiking photos form Palm Desert - I took a lot of tree photos that I think are going to end up as art cloth at some point. 

Late afternoon light

We are back home in the cold after our month of sun and warmth. But this afternoon I noticed that the sunlight was coming in very brightly on the north wall. It gives me hop ehtat warmth might follow at some point.  Time to get caught up on home and studio projects!
