Late afternoon sunlight

All of a sudden I am seeing the late afternoon sunlight throw shadows on my walls. The sunn has been too high until now. Summer is flying past and I am not ready for it to go!

Early morning walk

Early in the morning the sun throws very long shadows of the grass and other plants along the sidewalk. The plants look much more impressive in their shadows!

It always pays to have your camera at the ready!

You just never know when a photo opportunity will present itself. Larry and I were having a drink of wine at his kitchen table and voila, a wonderful shadow image appears on his shirtfront. Thank you, Larry, for providing the canvas!

I can't resist - I love taking the shadow photos. I like the strong lines in this one.

Home again

This is the last picture I took at the workshop this week - a ghostly image of Gay at the ironing board at the end of the gallery hall. The end wall is created by a covering of white cloth so in this photo we are shooting through the cloth into the brighter room behind. I like the soft, shadowy quality of this photo.

Angles

These very old (and real) horseshoes were hanging on the fence at the farm this weekend. And because they threw an interesting shadow they became  a subject for this blog!

Shadows

Today I went with some friends to see the Regina Benson exhibit at the Wright Musuem of Art at Beloit College, WI. The exhibit was beautiful and intruiging - how she acheives the patterns and surfaces in her work. More to come on this. One of the pieces consists of several panels hung next to one another and the images below show the shadows that were cast on the wall below the piece.

Sometimes you come across a really wonderful  pattern in an unexpected place.

Leaf Bowl

I have a large openwork black metal bowl that sits on the dining room table. I love this bowl - the shape, the pattern, the shadows that it throws on the tabletop. Periodically, I take new pictures of it when I see it in a new way. Here is a detail from the bowl.
