Mindful, Day 19, Labyrinth Thoughts

Although this is not a true labyrinth, when I saw it yesterday in the central garden at the Getty Musuem I was reminded of how walking a labyrinth is a mindful activity and helps you sort out your thoughts.  The slow and deliberate steps following a proscribed path allows your mind to meditate. And though you may walk into a labyrinth with a tangled knot of thoughts you often walk out with a clearer direction. 

Labyrinth cloth

I have been working with the labyrinth image that I showed a few weeks ago. In this sample the Chartres labyrinth image is vat dyed in red over a mottled red and teal linen. There is a small amount of discharge halo around the edges but not enough! Then I overprinted with turquoise the fern leaf. Not sure I am liking this at all but hoping it will lead to something I do like, soooon!

I have been working on a new series of art cloth that may use a labyrinth image. This one is from Chartres Cathedral in France and is made of tiles on the floor. The whole history of labyrinths is fascinating and there are so many different versions of them.  Check Google for Labyrinths and you can find all kinds of interesting information.

Ideas for new work

I am working on some new series that build off of the idea of Tibetan prayer flags.  I have been making imagery for use on the cloth that may include labyrinth images. There are lots of kinds of labyrinths - more then I ever knew. (I found most by using Google anad looking for images.)
